Bios

Ken Tarlow, Founder
An inventor and patent holder (nearly 75 patents), Mr. Tarlow has more than 25 years of new product development and design experience, which includes the design of several of the most successful products in the US consumer marketplace. Ken founded America Invents in 1985, and is regularly featured in general and special interest media reports as a trusted advocate of the American Inventor. He is a member of the Industrial Design Society of America and was listed in “Who’s Who of American Inventors.” Ken often works closely with some of the top product companies to design and develop new, proprietary products.

Bill Seidel, CEO and President
Mr. Seidel has 24 years of experience as an authority and lecturer on marketing and innovation. He has worked with great entrepreneurs (Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari) and leading innovators (Robert Warden, co-founder of the Infomercial Industry). And he has worked with top marketing leaders (Jay Levinson, author of the Guerrilla Marketing series) and visionary business minds (Michael Gerber, international speaker and author of the E-Myth business books). He also executed licensing agreements with leading corporations (QVC, Tyco, Hasbro), and the US Air Force. Bill has consulted with the National Laboratories on technology commercialization, serves as a court-approved expert witness for product and marketing litigation and he addresses the California Senate on direct marketing issues.

For more than fifteen years, Bill has been a lecturer on the topics of marketing, entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of California, Berkeley. He wrote and instituted Entrepreneurship & Innovation and wrote and established the Berkeley Study Program in Direct Marketing. From 1990 to 1994 he was a speaker and workshop leader throughout the country for the Innovation Conferences sponsored by the US Patent Office.

Kris Hudgens, Executive VP, Licensing
During the last two years, Mr. Hudgens has structured and negotiated nearly 15 licensing agreements with an average royalty rate of 10.5% for products targeted to TV, Avon, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, West Marine, Frontgate, Bed Bath & Beyond and other major retailers. He began his licensing work with Sinia Inc. (funded by Nokia Ventures and acquired by FusionOne) where he developed the pricing and licensing model for their innovative wireless software. Kris also worked with within FedEx’s new business strategy department and with Vanderbilt’s Technology Transfer Department.

Kris began his career in the engineering and construction industry. He consulted with more than 250 businesses in the US and Canada relating to supply chain management, operations and quality control. Kris performed as lead designer on the WorldCom telecommunication infrastructure build out in the US. Kris participated GTE’s (Verizon) rollout of their digital wireless network into the Southeast. He earned his engineering degree and then went on to study innovation and entrepreneurship while obtaining his MBA – both from Vanderbilt University.

Patricia Lenz, Executive VP Marketing
Most recently, Ms. Lenz has worked representing proprietary products to various industries with a particular focus on the hardware and outdoor industries. She orchestrated the launch and sales of a proprietary product in the outdoor market, with more than 90,000 units sold in the first six months. Her exceptional PR experience began with the Medialink Group, the national image-marketing firm behind the launch of The Sharper Image, several Rodale Press magazine properties and The Bicycle Council. Through the years, Patty has developed relationships with the nation’s leading media groups, including: The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, USA Today, The Today Show, Vogue, Newsweek and WGN Radio.

Patty’s work with Taiwan-based Giant Bicycles, the world’s leading manufacturer and seller of quality bicycles, contributed to an image and brand turnaround for the company’s US operations. Patty was also instrumental in driving client acquisition for the successful Internet start-up, BigTray, utilizing a focused campaign of trade shows, direct mail, online marketing, advertising and public relations.
