Barbara Arner was an office manager with a headache. When
she came in to see Ken Tarlow she said she was tired of her
husband's ties all over the floor. "I want something that
goes around in a oval like they have at the cleaners to hold
his ties in the closet. I want to solve this problem."
This was the birth of her invention.
This was the best time for Barbara to seek
the help of a company that understood patents and prototypes.
Before she went through the expense and time of getting a
patent - Ken and Barbara set out to develop the product to
make sure the patent was right the first time.

A common
mistake for new inventors is to rush out and get a patent
before they fully develop the concept. This leads to patents
that miss important information and claims.
Ken and Barbara designed the first concept, then built the
first prototype to make sure it incorporated all of the
features that she wanted - even adding some that she hadn't
thought of yet. Then Ken set out to protect the product with a
US Patent.
Barbara's idea has generated more than $60 million in sales
and brought her $3 million in royalties. It is currently
being sold by the Helman Group to retail stores nationally and
is also available through The
Sharper Image.
